May 9 - 13

May 9th - May 13th

This week we will be focusing on the the other people mindset outro-week. We want to invite your student to wear maize & blue on Mondays to celebrate the Positivity Project. To check this out at home, you can access the P2 for Families at https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/  The password is P2.

Nuts & Bolts

  • NWEA M-STEP test this Wednesday, May 11th. Due to testing, we will have no spelling this week!

  • Official SWIM dates: May 18-20: 1:45-3:00 at the YMCA and possibly June 1 at the same times. For swimming, your child will come to school in their regular clothes each day. They will bring a DRY towel and suit in a plastic bag each day. We will change at the pool, and then change back into our clothes before we return to school.

  • Lunch and Chaperone notes will be sent home about our field trip to the Potowatomi Zoo on May 27th. Please read it and fill out and return it if you would like to join us or if your student will need a sack lunch from school.

  • Please make sure your student charges their computer every night. We have been getting lax about charging and many students are not prepared for learning.

  • Kids should bring a full water bottle to school everyday as well as a healthy snack. Please continue to have them dress in layers until we know the weather has officially warmed up.

What to Work on at Home

To keep your student practicing the skills we are working hard on at school, please consider having them work on:

Reading- 20-30 minutes/day.

Spelling-  NONE THIS WEEK DUE TO TESTING. Students will receive spelling words on Monday and take their test on Friday. Please make sure they study their words every night.

IXL Math Practice- Please have your child work on IXL: AA or BB at home for 10 mins a day. If your student participates in Khan Mappers at school, this is a great option for them to work on for 10-15 minutes per day at home!

Class this Week

Math- We will start Unit 7: Geometry

Reading- This week we will focus on tying all of our reading strategies together. Groups will be working on reading stories and creating plot mountains to sequence events, character maps to work on traits and inference charts to work on predictions!
