May 3rd - May 6th

May 3rd - May 6th

This week we will be focusing on the Leadership. We want to invite your student to wear maize & blue on Mondays to celebrate the Positivity Project. To check this out at home, you can access the P2 for Families at https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/  The password is P2.

Nuts & Bolts

  • Please make sure your student charges their computer every night. We have been getting lax about charging and many students are not prepared for learning.

  • NWEA math test this Wednesday, May 4th. Due to testing and no school Monday, we will have no spelling this week!

  • Monday, May 2nd there is NO SCHOOL!

  • Friday, May 6th is our track meet! Please make sure your student wears tennis shoes and athletic clothes. Have them dress in layers for the weather!

  • Swimming is planned to take place the week of May 16- May 20. Please make sure your student has a bathing suit that fits for that time.

  • Kids should bring a full water bottle to school everyday as well as a healthy snack. Please continue to have them dress in layers until we know the weather has officially warmed up.

DRESS UP DAYS THIS WEEK!
Tuesday- PJ day! Kids may bring blankets/pillows.
Wednesday- Pattern Day!
Thursday- Inside out / mismatch day!
Friday- SJ Spirit wear day!

What to Work on at Home

To keep your student practicing the skills we are working hard on at school, please consider having them work on:

Reading- 20-30 minutes/day.

Spelling-  NONE THIS WEEK DUE TO TESTING. Students will receive spelling words on Monday and take their test on Friday. Please make sure they study their words every night.

IXL Math Practice- Please have your child work on IXL: T at home for 10 mins a day. If your student participates in Khan Mappers at school, this is a great option for them to work on for 10-15 minutes per day at home!

Class this Week

Math- We will start Unit 6: Measuring length, time, liquid, volume, and weight. In this unit, students generate and represent length measurement data in halves and fourths of an inch on line plots. They learn about and estimate relative units of measure including weight, liquid volume, and time, and use the four operations to solve problems involving measurement.

Reading- This week we will focus on tying all of our reading strategies together. Groups will be working on reading stories and creating plot mountains to sequence events, character maps to work on traits and inference charts to work on predictions!

Writing- Students will begin to work on book writing. During the next few weeks we will analyze picture books, discuss figurative language, practice different types of writing. At the end of the unit, we will hold a story share were students will sit in small groups and share their poems.
