March 10 - 18

March 14th - March 18th

This week we will be focusing on Love of Learning. We want to invite your student to wear maize & blue on Mondays to celebrate the Positivity Project. To check this out at home, you can access the P2 for Families at https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/  The password is P2.

Nuts & Bolts

  • No School Monday, March 14th.

  • As it starts to warm up, please make sure your student dresses for the weather and has a jacket for days that it could still be chilly.

  • Kids should bring a full water bottle to school everyday as well as a healthy snack.

What to Work on at Home

To keep your student practicing the skills we are working hard on at school, please consider having them work on:

Reading- 20-30 minutes/day.

Spelling- Students will receive spelling words on Monday and take their test on Friday. Please make sure they study their words every night.

IXL Math Practice- Please have your child work on IXL: V, W, X at home for 10 mins a day.

Class this Week

Math- We are starting Unit 5: Fractions as Numbers. In this unit, students develop an understanding of fractions as numbers and of fraction equivalence by representing fractions on diagrams and number lines, generating equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions.

Reading- This week we will focus on Unit 9: Cause and Effect. We will be reading text to find out what happened (effect) and why or how it happened (cause). Students will have time to practice as a whole class, in small groups and independently.

Writing- We are finishing poetry and will be moving to our next unit, Informational Writing. They will have the opportunity to write about something they feel they are an expert on. This will give them the chance to share their passions with us as well as write about facts instead of their opinions or ideas from their imaginations.

Science- We are working on our final science unit, Stormy Skies. In this unit, students investigate and make predictions about the weather through careful observation of the clouds and wind. Students also learn to differentiate between weather and climate and use models to reveal global climate patterns.
