Nuts & Bolts
We will celebrate Valentines Day on February 14th. If you are interested in joining our afternoon party (10:45-11:20) please let me know. I will let the office know so they can make sure you are on our approved volunteer list!
- Here is what we need for our party- please let me know if you can provide any of the following items:-Toothpicks (about 300-500)-Red or pink candy gumdrops (Or a different gummy candy that we can build towers from using our toothpicks. Dots work great too. The color does not matter if you can't find red/pink)- stickers to decorate card bags
Your student is making Valentine's for their class in school. I will hand out a class list of names for them to write on their Valentines in class. This is great for handwriting practice! If they want to put it in a bag with candy that is fine
Please make sure to send your child with coats and cold weather gear for outside recess when needed.
- Kids should bring a full water bottle to school everyday as well as a healthy snack.
What to Work on at Home
To keep your student practicing the skills we are working hard on at school, please consider having them work on:
Reading- 20-30 minutes/day.
Spelling- Students will receive spelling words on Monday and take their test on Friday. Please make sure they study their words every night.
IXL Math Practice- Google Classroom assignments and Khan Mappers at home for 10 mins a day.
Class this Week
Math- We are going to be starting Unit 4: Relating Multiplication to Division. In this unit, students learn about and use the relationship between multiplication and division, place value understanding, and the properties of operations to multiply and divide whole numbers within 100. They also represent and solve two-step word problems using the four operations.
Reading- This week we will focus on Unit 6: Understanding Fact and Opinion. The students will practice reading passages that have facts and opinions and they will need to differentiate between those. They will also continue to make inferences in their read to self books!
Writing- Students will choose a biography to read and work on taking notes about a person from history. We will use these notes for our next writing assignment.
Science- We will start our new unit, Invisible Forces. In this unit, students explore the forces all around them. They investigate the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces, the pushes and pulls of bridge structures, and the effects of friction on the motion of objects. Students also explore the power of magnetic forces and investigate firsthand how these forces can be used to help us in our everyday lives.
