Nuts & Bolts
I have finished conferences with those who asked. If you would still like a conference please let me know.
Please make sure to send your child with coats and cold weather gear for outside recess when needed.
- Kids should bring a full water bottle to school everyday as well as a healthy snack.
- We are creating our own Valentines in class for the students to give to each other. They can add treats to a zip lock bag if they would like.
What to Work on at Home
To keep your student practicing the skills we are working hard on at school, please consider having them work on:
Reading- 20-30 minutes/day. Students should be able to retell you about what they have read.
Spelling- Students will receive spelling words on Monday and take their test on Friday. Please make sure they study their words every night.
Math Practice- Please have your child work on Khan Academy Mappers at home for 10 mins a day.
Class this Week
Math- We are going to be starting Unit 4: Relating Multiplication to Division. In this unit, students learn about and use the relationship between multiplication and division, place value understanding, and the properties of operations to multiply and divide whole numbers within 100. They also represent and solve two-step word problems using the four operations.
Reading- This week we will focus on Unit 6: Understanding Fact and Opinion. The students will practice reading passages that have facts and opinions and they will need to differentiate between those. They will also continue to make inferences in their read to self books!
Writing- Students will practice writing to a prompt to develop an introduction sentence and use complete sentences with details. They will also need to focus on adding figurative langauge to their paragraphs and use punctuation and conventions correctly.
Social Studies- We have started our new unit, The Growth of Michigan. In this unit, students will learn about the different economic activities that helped Michigan grow and become the State it is today. We will also discuss how jobs from then to now have changed and why we are seeing these changes.
