Nuts & Bolts
In January, 3rd graders will learn about swim safety. Please make sure your student has a suit that will fit at that time :) See dates below for when we will go swim at the High School.
- Please make sure to send your child with coats and cold weather gear for outside recess when needed.
- Kids should bring a full water bottle to school everyday as well as a healthy snack.
What to Work on at Home
To keep your student practicing the skills we are working hard on at school, please consider having them work on:
Reading- 20-30 minutes/day.
Spelling- Studens will receive spelling words on Monday and take their test on Friday. Please make sure they study their words every night.
IXL Math Practice- Please have your child work on IXL K,L,M and F at home for 10 mins a day.
Class this Week
Math- We are going to be finishing Unit 3: Addition & Subtraction within 1,000 . In this unit, students use place value understanding to round whole numbers and add and subtract within 1,000. They also represent and solve two-step word problems using addition, subtraction, and multiplication and assess the reasonableness of answers.
Reading- This week we will focus on our fluency and decoding while we practice skits in our reader's theater groups. At the end of the week, we will have the opportunity to perform our plays! In small group, we will read and discuss the story elements: characters and their traits, setting, plot, problem and solution.
Writing- We will continue to write to persuade as we read about Zoos and decide is we are for or against them after conducting research and hearing many points of view. Your student will take their stance and use evidence to persuade their reader to share their beliefs about zoos!
Science We will continue working on Unit 2: Animals Through Time! In this unit, students develop an understanding of how animals and their environments change through time. Fossils provide a window into the animals and habitats of the past. Analyzing the traits of animals provides evidence for how those traits vary, how they are inherited, and how they have changed over time. Students also examine how the environment can affect inherited traits and determine which animals will survive in a particular environment.
