Nuts & Bolts

  • No School Monday, January 17th. Martin Luther king Jr. Day. Ice Skating Friday- dress warm!

  • Testing This Week: We will wrap up any unfinished testing: NWEA math and reading, F/P reading and spelling benchmark testing.

  • Once testing is completed, I will reach out to those I need to conference with. Once those priority conferences are finished, I will open conferences to anyone else who is interested. Stay tuned for your opportunity to sign up.

  • Please make sure to send your child with coats and cold weather gear for outside recess when needed.

  • Kids should bring a full water bottle to school everyday as well as a healthy snack.

What to Work on at Home

To keep your student practicing the skills we are working hard on at school, please consider having them work on:

Reading- 20-30 minutes/day.

Spelling- Students will receive spelling words on Monday and take their test on Friday. Please make sure they study their words every night.

IXL Math Practice- Please have your child work on IXL M and K at home for 10 mins a day.

Class this Week

Math- We are going to be starting Unit 4: Relating Multiplication to Division. In this unit, students learn about and use the relationship between multiplication and division, place value understanding, and the properties of operations to multiply and divide whole numbers within 100. They also represent and solve two-step word problems using the four operations.

Reading- This week we will focus on Unit 5: Inferencing and Making Connections. The students will practice inferencing and connecting during modeled mini-lessons and through our class read aloud. They will also have the opportunity to practice these skills with partners in small group and independently during read to self.

Writing- We completed our write to persuade essay about Zoos.  Students are now writing free choice pieces this week.

Science We will continue working on Unit 2: Animals Through Time! In this unit, students develop an understanding of how animals and their environments change through time. Fossils provide a window into the animals and habitats of the past. Analyzing the traits of animals provides evidence for how those traits vary, how they are inherited, and how they have changed over time. Students also examine how the environment can affect inherited traits and determine which animals will survive in a particular environment.

January 19: Late Start- School begins at 9:20.
